In 2007 we decided to take our third trip to Alaska, even though we had just been in 2005. On previous trips we always missed the fabulous sight of bears fishing for salmon, because we went in June, which is well before the salmon runs in late July and August. That's when the bears go fishing. This trip, we were going mainly to see and photograph the bears and we were not disappointed. There is a superb viewing area in Hyder, consisting of a raised wooden walkway where you can look down on the bears fishing in Salmon Creek. Several grizzlies were active and a couple of black bears as well. The grizzlies included a female and her 3 cubs who were going on 2 years old. |
